Some people have asked the question, “How do you find GOOD in Good Friday?” After all, it is the day Jesus died. This is an important day for everyone to remember without a death there could never be a resurrection. We cannot overcome our sins and guilt on our own. That’s what Jesus came here to do for us. As we reflect on this day, may we think of three important keys:
Remember. He promised eternal life to the criminal on the cross and to those that believe. Then he said to Jesus, “Lord remember me when You come into Your Kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” Luke 23:42-43 NKJV. May we be a firm believer that Jesus will remember us and assures an eternal life if we believe.
Reflect. He endured the cross so we would be forgiven of our sins. Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2 NKJV. We should always be thankful that he endured the cross for us and understand what that means.
Realize. He will rise again on the third day. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.” Mark 16:6 NKJV. Therefore, because "He Lives" we will live eternally in a place called heaven.
Even though the day seems like a loss, where Jesus dies and Satan wins, it is in fact the opposite. He overcame sin and death so that we may one day live with Him in heaven. This is not a sad day. In fact, it is a day to celebrate the greatest sacrifice we will ever receive. Thank Him that you can see the true definition of "GOOD" on this Good Friday!
