94 Times Thankful

By Kayla

The benefit to having divorced parents is that you get TWO Thanksgiving meals. And let’s be serious, who doesn’t love holiday food? On my mom’s side, we celebrate with my grandparents and my grandma’s sister, who just turned 94 this month. Sadly, the doctors say it will probably be her last. I cherish all Thanksgivings past and look forward to what this year holds in store. Although we are 70 years apart in age, our hearts are very close. There is just something special about the stories she tells. She may sometimes forget the details, but she generally knows what she is talking about, and is always good for a laugh. She is also always ready with advice, like where I need to go to find a man and how I need to start having kids and the consequences of oversleeping through church (not based on her personal experience, of course).

This time of year is when we all celebrate family most, those here and those in heaven. They are a special gift from God. So this Thanksgiving I am particularly thankful for family, and for my great-aunt, who is so very special in my life.

“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” – Psalm 9:1
