Don't Let Your Planning Smolder

As the cooler weather nears, we encourage planners to add a bonfire to their retreat package since they are a great outdoor activity that allows groups to come together and reconnect with God. On top of restoring relationships, the food and stories at a bonfire are what really ignite a group’s ministry event. However, what about going beyond your generic s’mores and testimonies by adding some exciting activities to the bonfire’s agenda? When it comes to livening up your night by the fire, we have you covered. Here are some great ideas to help you with planning.

1. Get Creative with Your S’mores

We all know that s’mores are a must at any bonfire. While your guests may be content with graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate, see if they would like to make a few changes. Get creative by using cookies instead of graham crackers. What about caramel filled chocolate instead of plain chocolate? They’re both possible. Campfire Marshmallow has some great recipes to spruce up the ingredients for your upcoming event.

2. Host a Biblical Bonfire

Be Biblical at your next bonfire by hosting a Bible study or trivia night. Have someone in your group who is interested deliver a message to your guests after they fill up on delicious s’mores. Trivia games are another activity that will keep your guests engaged and on their toes. Divide everyone into teams and test their Biblical knowledge by asking questions on any subject related to the Word. No matter if your group chooses to have a Bible study or trivia night or even BOTH together, your “Biblical bonfire” is sure to be a hit with food, scripture, and prayer.

3. Gather Around the Campfire and Sing Your Campfire Song

With this bonfire idea, we can’t guarantee the younger generations won’t try singing SpongeBob SquarePants’ The Campfire Song Song once they hear that songs are going to be added to your night by the fire. At your next event, invite God to the bonfire by dedicating time for praise and worship. Tell the musically inclined to also bring their instruments and have your group show up with their golden pipes (Watch out Lauren Daigle). Talk with guests about what songs they would like to sing together and add them to the playlist. Your group’s next bonfire is definitely going to be one to remember when God shows up to the party.

Now that you know there are more options out there to spark your next bonfire, it’s time to start planning the big event’s activities! Reconnect your ministry group this fall by hosting a memorable bonfire filled with food, Scripture, and songs.
